All roofed tourist accommodations in Nova Scotia are required to register annually under the Tourist Accommodation Registration Act  (TARA), unless it is your primary residence. You must renew your registration every year as close to April 1 as possible. 

A valid TARA registration number is required to participate in Tourism Nova Scotia’s programs and marketing channels, such as NovaScotia.com and the Doers & Dreamers Guide. All roofed accommodations, even if operating in a primary residence, will need to register annually and provide their TARA registration number to Tourism Nova Scotia by email at novascotia@novascotia.ca to maintain their business listing(s) or enable participation in other Tourism Nova Scotia programming. 

The registration fee for hosts will be waived for the 2021-22 season due to the significant impact of COVID-19 on the tourism sector.

How to Register/Renew

To complete your renewal, you will need to enter your email address and last year’s registration number (ex. RYA2020-0000004532). Complete your renewal at:

If you are a new accommodation or have not previously completed your registration, please visit https://beta.novascotia.ca/register-your-tourist-accommodation .

Once complete, make note of your new RYA number for 2021-22 and send it to novascotia@novascotia.ca.
